Moana-Inspired Gelatin Treats for Themed Parties
Celebrate Motunui style with these Moana-inspired gelatin treats!
Each dessert has two layers: a creamy, airy milk-gelatin layer and a firmer water-gelatin layer with a more concentrated flavor.
Together, the flavors and textures create a unique and delicious dessert designed to resemble Moana’s canoe sailing across the ocean.
These treats are perfect for children’s parties, movie nights, or any celebration inspired by this Disney favorite.

How Do You Make Moana-Inspired Gelatin Treats?
You will need blue gelatin dessert mix, evaporated milk, unflavored gelatin, water, waffle cookies, and cups or small containers.
I used small bowl-shaped containers, but you can prepare the gelatin in any type of cup or dessert container.
For the finishing touch, print your favorite canoe sails, cut them out, and attach them to toothpicks or small wooden sticks. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Once dry, insert each sail into a waffle cookie and place the cookie over the gelatin before serving.
Ingredients
For the Milk-Gelatin Layer
- 1 can cold evaporated milk
- 1 large package blue gelatin dessert mix
- 1½ cups water
- Plastic cups or small dessert containers
For the Water-Gelatin Layer
- 1 large package blue gelatin dessert mix
- 1 packet unflavored gelatin, approximately ¼ ounce (7 g)
- 3 cups water
For the Decorations
- Printed canoe sails
- Toothpicks or small wooden sticks
- White craft glue, for assembling the paper sails only
- Waffle cookies
Instructions
- Add one package of blue gelatin dessert mix to ½ cup boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved.
- Add the remaining 1 cup cold water and stir until smooth.
- Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
- Blend the cold evaporated milk for 3–5 minutes to make it light and airy.
- Add the cooled blue gelatin mixture and blend for another 2 minutes, or until fully combined.
- Pour the mixture into the cups, filling each one approximately three-quarters full.
- Refrigerate for 2–4 hours, or until the first layer is firm.
- Once the first layer has set, place the unflavored gelatin in a small bowl with 3 tablespoons of water.
- Stir and let it rest until it develops a sponge-like texture.
- Meanwhile, dissolve the second package of blue gelatin dessert mix in 1 cup boiling water, stirring until smooth.
- Microwave the bloomed unflavored gelatin in 10-second intervals until completely liquid.
- Add the remaining 2 cups water and the melted unflavored gelatin to the blue gelatin mixture. Stir until fully combined.
- Carefully pour the mixture over the first layer.
- Refrigerate for approximately 4 hours, or until completely set.
- Before serving, insert a paper sail into each waffle cookie and place the decorated cookie over the gelatin.
And that’s it! Your Moana-inspired gelatin treats are ready to enjoy.
I hope you love them. See you in the next recipe!
The paper sails and wooden sticks are decorative and are not edible. Remove them before eating.
